PRP/Hair Restoration
Facial Plastic Surgeon in New Orleans, LA and surrounding areas.
Are you experiencing hair thinning or hair loss and looking for a natural treatment with actual results? PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a safe, non-surgical option for hair restoration. Using a concentrated solution of your own platelets, PRP therapy stimulates hair growth, enhances the strength of existing hair follicles, and promotes healthier hair overall.
What Is PRP?
PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is a concentrate from your own blood. It is rich in growth factors and proteins, boosting healing and tissue regeneration.
During a PRP treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, and the plasma is separated and concentrated using ProGen technology. This concentrated plasma is injected into the scalp or applied to the skin to rejuvenate hair follicles or promote healing.
How Does PRP Work for Hair Restoration?
PRP therapy delivers growth factors directly to the hair follicles, stimulating their natural growth process. When injected into the scalp, PRP improves blood circulation around the hair follicles, providing essential nutrients and prolonging the growth phase of the hair cycle.
This results in increased hair density, thickness, and overall quality. PRP is especially effective when combined with other hair restoration techniques, making it a versatile option for those seeking non-invasive hair treatments.
How Does PRP Work for Hair Restoration?
- Efficiency: Improved preparation process, reducing extraction and concentration time.
- Precision: Provides precise control over platelet concentration for tailored treatments.
- Quality: Provides the highest quality PRP by maintaining platelet viability.
- Safety: Minimizes the risk of contamination through a sterile environment.
PRP Consultation
Dr. Weiss will assess your hair loss pattern, scalp condition, and overall health during your consultation to create a personalized treatment plan. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your goals and expectations, and Dr. Weiss will explain the benefits and limitations of PRP therapy.
The ProGen PRP Tubing System, known for its efficiency, precision, and safety, will also be discussed. This will help you understand how the quality of PRP used in your treatment can enhance the results.
Am I a Good Candidate for PRP?
PRP therapy can be an excellent choice for men and women experiencing mild to moderate hair loss or thinning. Ideal candidates are in the early stages of hair loss and have healthy hair follicles that can still respond to growth factors. Patients with certain medical conditions or on certain medications may not be suitable for PRP therapy. A consultation with Dr. Weiss will help determine if PRP is the right option for you.
What to Expect During PRP Treatment?
PRP treatment is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. After drawing a small amount of blood, the PRP is prepared using the ProGen PRP Tubing System. This technology allows a higher concentration of platelets.
The PRP is then injected into the targeted areas of the scalp or applied topically if combined with micro-needling. The procedure usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and most patients experience little to no discomfort.
PRP Aftercare
First Week:
- Days one to three: Avoid washing your hair and refrain from using hair products to allow the PRP to absorb into the scalp thoroughly. Avoid vigorous exercise or activities that cause sweating.
- Days four to seven: Gently wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Avoid direct sunlight on the treated areas, and do not use hair color or chemical treatments.
Second Week:
- Continue normal activities, but avoid hair treatments involving heat, chemicals, or pulling. Be mindful of any redness or swelling, which should subside by the end of the second week.
Third Week and Beyond:
- Resume your usual hair care routine. Results will become noticeable after about three to four weeks, with full results visible in three to six months. Follow-up treatments may be scheduled based on your personalized plan.
