A restful and younger looking face starts with healthy skin as its primary foundation. As a facial plastic surgeon in New Orleans and Metairie, Dr. Weiss focuses on a patient’s overall quality and health of their skin. Facial skin resurfacing can be optimally achieved with a LASER.
What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
As we age, our skin becomes damaged due to many factors including sun damage, repetitive muscle movements, and loss of elasticity. These factors cause our skin to have fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and uneven pigmentation. There are many skin care products and treatments that can improve the overall quality and health of your skin, but skin laser resurfacing is one of the most effective means of achieving optimal and longer lasting results.
One of the best ways to stimulate collagen production and create turnover of old skin into healthier skin is to first cause damage. A laser uses light energy to intentionally damage the skin. This is done to jump start the body’s healing process. This process stimulates more collagen production and skin turnover. The result is decreased fine lines and wrinkles as well as tightening of the skin. What to Expect During Recovery
Downtime is typically 5-7 days depending on the aggressiveness of the laser treatment. If a deeper and more aggressive setting is used, there will likely be some minor oozing. During this week of recovery, the face will feel itchy and slightly inflamed and will need a light layer of Aquaphor. We give all patients detailed post procedure instructions on how to care for the skin during the healing phase. Beautiful, healthy, glowing skin will appear 8-12 days after the procedure. The skin will continue to improve in texture and continue tightening for several months after the procedure.
