Excel V Laser adjusts to your skin type and specific condition. It and also has an adjustable spot size which allows for precise treatment of both superficial and deeper problems. To ensure patient comfort, this skin care device uses advanced cooling technology which provides continuous cooling before, during and after the laser pulse.
Most people are affected by either chronic or cosmetic skin conditions which cause broken blood vessels, discoloration and lesions to appear on the face or legs. These conditions can cause embarrassment, self-consciousness or even depression, thus affecting quality of life.
The good news is that Dr. Sean Weiss – Facial Plastic Surgery offers treatment for various skin conditions of the face and legs with the Excel V Laser.
The Excel V is designed to enhance patient safety and comfort during laser treatment. The system uses a unique high power laser that is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels in the skin. This laser heats the abnormal vessels causing them to shrink and ultimately restoring normal skin tone and color. The system incorporates the latest innovations in cooling technologies to ensure patient comfort, and there is very little risk for long-term side effects or downtime.
Traditional approaches to treating these conditions are frequently limited to electrosurgery, sclerotherapy, and surgical destruction of veins and vessels, each of which pose significant disadvantages. For example, electrosurgery, a procedure in which an electrode needle is used to target skin lesions, is rather painful and may cause craters in the skin. Similarly, sclerotherapy, commonly used to treat spider veins, is an invasive procedure that requires patients to wear compression stockings after treatment and requires multiple injections.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Excel V Laser
How does Excel V work?
The Excel V Laser, which was developed by Cutera, is a cutting edge laser system for treating a variety of vascular skin conditions. Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin. Such is the case with rosacea, in which the facial blood vessels dilate excessively causing redness and flushing. Excel V treats these conditions by administering high power laser energy that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The energy heats the abnormal vessels causing them to shrink in size and restores your natural skin tone and color.
What skin conditions do the Excel V system treat?
Excel V is effective at treating a number of conditions, including rosacea, telangiectasias, leg veins, port wine stains, and cherry angiomas. Excel V treats mild and severe forms of these conditions. The system also provides cosmetic benefits for skin lesions and scars from past injuries or surgeries
What are the benefits of the Excel V laser compared with other treatment options?
The benefit of Excel V is that treatments can be fine tuned ensuring that the laser delivers specific therapy to match your skin type and condition. The system is capable of delivering various wavelengths of laser light energy at varying intensities and spot sizes. Thus a wide range of specific treatments are possible from superficial blemishes, such as small lesions and sun spots, to deep vascular conditions, such as leg veins and nodular port wine stains. The wide range of spot sizes available ensures that small treatment areas can be targeted precisely and larger areas can be treated in less time. This high level of customization makes Excel V great for treating many different conditions. While this may have required several different systems or procedures in the past
Are there other laser treatment options available for these skin conditions?
Yes, there are other laser treatment options available for various skin conditions. However, the Excel V laser is one of the most versatile systems allowing for tailored treatments that precisely match your unique skin type and condition. While some other lasers may be effective for treating a condition at one size and depth, they may not work effectively on conditions that affect a larger areas.
What is the level of demand for treatment of skin conditions?
The prevalence of vascular skin conditions varies greatly. Rosacea is one of the most common conditions affecting about 14 million Americans. Many people with Rosacea may not even realize they have it even when common symptoms are present such as redness in the face and flushing after consumption of alcohol, caffeine or spicy foods. Another fairly common condition is cherry angiomas, which are small red bumps that spontaneously appear on the skin. These kind of lesions are commonly found in middle-aged populations—more than 85% of people over 45 years of age have several cherry angiomas. Spider veins also is a fairly common condition although the exact prevalence varies according to different sources. Port wine stains, another condition which Excel V treats, is a more rare condition, occurring in about 3 out of every 1,000 people. These are a type of birthmark often appearing on the face in which swollen blood vessels cause a reddish-purplish discoloration of the skin.
Although these conditions represent some of the most common things treated with the Excel V laser, the robust customization of the system makes it ideal for also treating more general dermatology problems such as superficial blemishes, discoloration, and scars. Therefore, almost anyone can benefit from treatment with the Excel V.
How is the procedure performed?
After an initial consultation, Dr. Weiss determines if treatment with the Excel V is appropriate. Unlike other procedures, injections or topical anesthesia are not required. The treatment takes about 15 – 30 minute to perform. Depending on your condition, the Excel V laser is applied over the affected skin until the abnormal vessels diminish. To minimize discomfort and protect your skin, the Excel V uses a proprietary cooling mechanism.
What skin types does Excel V treat?
All skin types in the Fitzpatrick skin type classification are safe for treatment with the Excel V system. This classification denotes 6 different skin types, ranging from very light (type I) to very dark (type VI). The 532nm wavelength is ideal for treating skin types I – IV and the 1064nm mode can be used on all skin types I – VI.
How many Excel V treatments are needed?
The number of sessions depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness and color of the vascular lesion. Superficial vascular lesions such as small telangiectasia and diffused redness are easiest to treat; you might see improvement after just one treatment. Conditions that are more difficult to treat may require 2-4 or more treatments for optimal results.
How much does Excel V Cost? What is the cost of Excel V Laser treatment?
As with any procedure, Excel V cost depends on the specific condition for which treatment is being provided. For minor conditions which require only a single treatment session, the cost of Excel V generally ranges between $250-$1,000. For conditions that affect a large portion of the skin and require additional treatment sessions, the price increases proportionally.
