Proper aftercare allows you to enjoy the best results from your BOTOX® Cosmetic appointment. It also minimizes your risk of swelling, bruising, and other unwanted effects. While this injectable doesn’t require any recovery time, there are a few things you should avoid post-treatment.
1. Increasing Your Heart Rate
Getting BOTOX® Cosmetic is a great excuse to relax for the rest of the day. You’ll want to steer clear of any activities that could elevate your heart rate. That includes everything from strenuous exercise to soaking in a hot tub.
Increasing your heart rate increases blood flow and circulation. This could reduce the effectiveness of your treatment and cause unwanted bruising.
2. Bending or Lying Down
It’s important to sit up for the first few hours after receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic. Staying upright reduces the risk of diffusion and can also help minimize bruising and swelling.
Avoid anything that requires you to bend or lie down right after treatment. That means you shouldn’t take a yoga class or get a massage. Save those activities for another day.
3. Massaging Your Face
Don’t reach for your jade roller or electric cleansing brush just yet! Applying pressure to the treated area is a no-go for at least four hours after getting BOTOX® Cosmetic. You risk moving the product around before it gets fully absorbed.
Avoid touching your face, getting a facial, or wearing a tight hat. These things can place unnecessary pressure on the injection site. If you want to wash your face on the night of your appointment, make sure to use a light hand.
