What Is Rhinoplasty?
In New Orleans, Louisiana
Rhinoplasty is an extremely popular surgical procedure that is performed to improve the shape and/or function of a patient’s nose. Often referred to as nose reshaping or a nose job, rhinoplasty can help enhance the natural appearance of the face by making thoughtful adjustments to the nose’s shape, size, or projection for improved balance among all facial features (such as the eyes, mouth, or ears). These corrections to the nose are made by Dr. Weiss carefully reshaping the underlying nasal cartilage and tissue, either with an advanced open (external) or closed (endonasal) surgical technique.
What Are The Benefits of Rhinoplasty?
Year after year, rhinoplasty continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures because of the dramatic impact it can have – both with your physical appearance as well as your self-esteem. Rhinoplasty is used to address common concerns with the nose, such as:
- Size (too big or too small in relation to other features)
- Shape (crooked, large bump on the bridge, asymmetry, bulbous tip, etc.)
- Width
- Projection (drooped tip)
- Long nose
- Saddle nose
- Flared or pinched nostrils
However, Dr. Weiss may also recommend rhinoplasty for functional purposes, including to:
- Correct damage from a nose injury
- Improve breathing problems caused by airway obstruction (such as a deviated septum)
During your consultation with Dr. Weiss, he will listen to your specific concerns and carefully examine the current condition of your nose to determine the best approach for your rhinoplasty procedure. Your surgery will be completely personalized to address these issues and refine the shape of your nose for one that complements your natural beauty rather than calls attention to itself.
Types of Rhinoplasty
Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
Dr. Weiss performs both open and closed rhinoplasty. This refers to the placement of the incisions during surgery. With an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made externally, just under the tip of the nose. With a closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made within the nostrils. The right approach for your procedure will depend on your goal outcome and the current structure of your nose.
Revision Rhinoplasty
If you are unhappy with the results of a previous nose reshaping surgery, revision rhinoplasty can help to give you the appearance you desire. Dr. Weiss often works with patients who have experienced issues from a previous nose surgery, such as:
- Excessive reduction of the bridge
- Irregularities or asymmetry of the nasal tip
- Problems with nasal implant materials
- Nasal collapse or asymmetry
Due to the nose’s delicate structure, revision rhinoplasty is more challenging than the initial surgery and should only be performed by a highly experienced facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Weiss.
Teen Rhinoplasty
Introduction Video | Dr. Sean Weiss
Younger patients under the age of twenty often experience life-changing benefits from a personalized rhinoplasty procedure. Teens who are unhappy with the look of their nose may struggle with low self-esteem, which can greatly impact their overall happiness and how they interact with others.
Dr. Weiss will meet with you and your teenager to discuss their concerns and develop a treatment plan best suited for achieving their goals. Dr. Weiss understands the importance of feeling confident in one’s appearance, and believes everyone – no matter where they are in life – deserves this feeling of self-confidence.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Not all noses are built the same. While many facial plastic surgeons perform rhinoplasty, not all have the experience working with the different characteristics associated with different ethnicities. Dr. Weiss understands these key differences in the nose’s structure, and is highly skilled at performing rhinoplasties on women and men of all ethnicities, including:
- African American Rhinoplasty
- Hispanic/Latin American Rhinoplasty
- Asian Rhinoplasty
Dr. Weiss creates natural-looking facial balance and harmony without sacrificing or erasing what makes you you.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Nose Surgery?
Nose reshaping surgery can be an effective option for healthy men, women, and teens who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose, or are experiencing functional problems caused by an injury or congenital disorder. If you have undergone a previous rhinoplasty and are unhappy with the results, Dr. Weiss also performs revision rhinoplasty. In these secondary rhinoplasty cases, Dr. Weiss recommends waiting at least a year after your initial procedure in order to allow for complete healing and recovery before the revision surgery.
Your consultation with Dr. Weiss will help to determine if you are a good candidate for nose reshaping surgery.
Rhinoplasty Before and After
Why Choose Dr. Weiss For Your Rhinoplasty
Sean R. Weiss, MD, FACS is experienced in performing rhinoplasty for all different goals and people. He will work with you one-on-one to create a personalized treatment plan based on your desired outcome and unique facial appearance.
See Your Nose Surgery Outcomes With 3D Imaging:
During your consultation, Dr. Weiss will use 3D imaging in order to address the various concerns you have with your nose, and create changes in order to visualize potential outcomes together. We believe that being able to see your potential results in this way will help you to feel more confident walking into your surgery, as well as throughout the recovery process.
What Is The Rhinoplasty Procedure?
The exact steps of your surgery will vary depending on what is discussed during your consultation. In most cases, your rhinoplasty will be performed at an accredited outpatient surgery center in the nearby New Orleans area.
During your surgery, an incision will be made either externally beneath the nasal tip (open procedure), or within the nostrils (closed procedure). Dr. Weiss will then work to carefully reshape the underlying cartilage and tissue in order to create a natural and well-balanced appearance of the nose. A primary rhinoplasty procedure will take about three hours to perform, while a more complex secondary or revision rhinoplasty will typically take 4 – 4.5 hours.
Rhinoplasty Recovery & Follow Up
Following your rhinoplasty surgery, use ice to help decrease any swelling, and make sure to keep your head elevated in order to reduce bleeding or swelling. You should feel well enough to be up and about within the first two days, however, it is important to listen to your body and not push yourself. After a week or so, you will be able to return to sedentary work (office/desk work) or school. Dr. Weiss will schedule several follow-up visits to monitor the healing progress of your nose.
What Results Should I Expect After My Rhinoplasty?
Like with any major facial plastic surgery, patience is key when it comes to your final rhinoplasty outcome. During the initial healing phase, you will experience some bruising and swelling of the nose, but will notice the changes in its shape, size, and balance immediately. It will take several weeks for the post-surgical effects to fade, but you will be able to wear makeup to help conceal bruising, redness, or scarring. Over the following months, your nose will continue to heal and you will notice the full effect of your procedure at about one year.
Rhinoplasty will provide you with results that last a lifetime. While your face will continue to age naturally over time, the effects of your rhinoplasty are permanent.
Complementary Procedures to Rhinoplasty
Because rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed to improve the overall balance between all facial features, it is commonly paired with other facial plastic surgery procedures to further improve facial symmetry. During your consultation, Dr. Weiss may recommend complementary procedures, such as:
- Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)
- Cheek Enhancement
- Chin Enhancement
- Facial Liposuction
Rhinoplasty can be combined with these procedures as a single surgery, or performed as a standalone procedure depending on your unique preferences and circumstances.
Cost Of Nose Surgery
The specific cost of your rhinoplasty will vary based on your unique procedure plan with Dr. Weiss. After speaking with you during your private consultation, he will provide you with a detailed estimate reflecting what the two of you had discussed.
Paying for your rhinoplasty should not be a headache. We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards, as well as financing through CareCredit®, in order to help make your experience as pain-free as possible.
